Originating in late 19th- and early 20th-century France, decorative baker’s racks combined practical shelving with the elegant ironwork and brass detailing we now associate with old French interiors. Originally created for displaying and cooling bread, they soon found a life far beyond the bakery — becoming distinctive pieces of furniture for kitchens, dining rooms and collected interiors.

Their appeal has certainly travelled. Antique baker’s racks have appeared in some wonderfully memorable interiors — from Paris flea-market finds in sophisticated European-inspired homes to the famously extravagant rooms of Elvis Presley’s Graceland.

This 1:12 Baker’s Rack is a faithful miniature replica of an original French antique, carefully rescaled while preserving the proportions, construction and decorative character of the full-size piece.

Created entirely in brass, each rack is individually built by hand. Every component is cut, formed, fitted and soldered before the complete structure is assembled, cleaned and patinated by hand. It is a surprisingly involved process for something so small, and the hand finishing gives every rack its own subtle variations and character.

This is a new limited collection of only 10 individually numbered pieces — with just 8 currently available.

Collectors may choose the final patina: aged blue-green verdigris; an iridescent French-style finish with subtle petrol-like tones; classic antique brown, from softly aged to richly weathered; or deep forged black for the character of old ironwork.

Whether filled with bread and pastries in a French bakery scene, used in a country kitchen or covered with a collector’s favorite tiny treasures, it is one of those pieces that can give an entire miniature interior its character.
